APK

Does the MOT of your car expire within 2 months? Then it's time to make an appointment for the APK. Our qualified MOT inspectors assess the condition of your car in accordance with RDW regulations.

Time for the MOT

In Europe it is a legal requirement that every car that is at least 3 years old is inspected annually. During the General Periodic Inspection (APK), your car is checked for the minimum safety and environmental requirements set by Europe. Think, for example, of your car tires, the brakes, lighting, shock absorbers, etc.

Any defects are detected in a timely manner, which can ultimately save you a lot of money on maintenance. After the MOT you will receive a report stating whether your car has been approved or whether there are defects that need to be remedied.

How often do you have to have your car MOT inspected?

How often you have to have your car inspected depends on the age of your car:

MOT and new cars
Do you have a new petrol car? Then you must have your car inspected for the first time after 4 years. This is legally required after 3 years for a new diesel car.

MOT and cars from a few years old
After 3 years, diesel cars must be inspected annually and petrol cars every other year. Is your petrol car older than 8 years? Then you must have your car inspected every year.

What is the expiry date of your APK?

If your car has been inspected before, you will receive a letter from the RDW (Rijksdienst voor het Wegverkeer) six weeks before the MOT due date, containing a request to have your car inspected.

Don't let your MOT expire: avoid a fine
It is of course your own responsibility to have the APK inspection carried out on time. If you are late and your APK expiration date has expired, you risk a hefty fine. You are also not insured at that time. Officially, you are not allowed to take a vehicle on the road if it does not meet the legal requirements. So make sure your car is approved on time.

Sample RDW
Our APK is recognized by the RDW. There is approximately a 3% chance that your car is eligible for a random check by the RDW. This RDW check must start within 90 minutes after our inspection. Your car may not leave our location until this inspection has been completed. It is a legal obligation to participate in the sample. We do everything we can to get you back on the road as soon as possible.
