Certifications, Accreditations, and Quality Standards | Faay Auto Group
Quality, reliability, and craftsmanship aren't empty promises at Faay Auto Groep. Our extensive certifications and official recognition from leading automotive industry bodies are proof of our professional standards. With RDW recognition at all five locations, BOVAG membership, and Vakgarage certification, we guarantee the highest quality automotive service in the Utrecht region. On this page, you'll find a transparent overview of all our certifications, what they mean, and why they're important for your safety and trust.
RDW Approved APK Inspection Station – Official Certification
All five branches of Faay Auto Groep – Utrecht, IJsselstein, Houten, Vianen and Zeist – are officially recognized by the Dutch Vehicle Authority (RDW) as an APK inspection station. This recognition is mandatory to perform official APK inspections and is an important quality mark that guarantees that we meet all legal requirements.
What does RDW recognition actually mean?
RDW recognition for periodic vehicle inspection stations isn't a formality, but a strict certification that demonstrates that a garage meets all legal requirements for conducting periodic vehicle inspections. Obtaining and maintaining this recognition requires continuous investment in equipment, training, and quality assurance.
To obtain and maintain our RDW recognition, we must meet strict conditions at all locations:
- Facilities and Infrastructure: Each workshop must meet specific requirements regarding space, lighting, floor space, accessibility and safety features according to RDW guideline 01-01-52
- RDW-approved Equipment: All inspection equipment must be RDW approved and calibrated at least annually by an approved calibration company.
- Qualified Personnel: APK inspections may only be carried out by RDW-approved inspectors who have completed the official APK training and follow annual refresher training
- Strict Procedures: Work must be carried out in accordance with the official APK inspection manual and all RDW regulations without exception.
- Digital Administration: All inspections must be correctly registered in real time in the central RDW system (MOVA system)
- Quality system: The inspection station must have a documented quality system and is inspected by the RDW at least once every three years
- Independence: Inspectors must be able to operate objectively and independently without commercial pressure
Our RDW-approved inspection equipment
To meet the strict RDW requirements, all our locations are equipped with professional, RDW-approved inspection equipment from leading brands such as MAHA, Sherlog, and RAV:

- OBD-II Diagnostic System: For reading error codes and emission-related systems
All this equipment is calibrated and inspected at least once a year by an independent calibration company recognized by the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority). Calibration certificates are retained and are available for inspection upon request. We also perform daily functional checks to ensure all equipment is operating optimally.

Frequently Asked Questions about Our Certifications
Will my factory warranty be retained if I have my maintenance done by you?
Yes, absolutely. The factory warranty remains valid when you have maintenance performed at an independent garage, provided the maintenance is carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions. At Faay Auto Groep, we work according to the maintenance intervals and procedures prescribed by the car manufacturer. We use parts that meet factory specifications (OEM or higher) and document all work in your maintenance log and digital system. Since EU regulations in 2002 (Block Exemption Regulation), car manufacturers are no longer permitted to require maintenance to be performed at the dealership. You are therefore free to choose where you have your car serviced.
How often is your inspection equipment checked?
At least once a year by an independent party. All vehicle inspection equipment (brake tester, clearance detector, light tester, emissions analyzer, etc.) must be calibrated at least once a year by an accredited calibration company, according to RDW regulations. This calibration is documented, and the certificates are retained. We also perform daily functional checks before commencing inspections. The RDW may visit unannounced at any time to inspect the equipment. If any deficiencies are found, the RDW accreditation will be revoked immediately.
What is the difference between BOVAG and RDW recognition?
Both are complementary but different. RDW recognition is a legal requirement for conducting periodic vehicle inspections (APKs). It's a technical certification that focuses on the quality of inspections. BOVAG membership is voluntary and covers all aspects of business operations: customer service, transparency, warranty arrangements, and dispute resolution. An RDW-certified garage can be a non-BOVAG member (and vice versa). At Faay Auto Groep, we hold both certifications, so you benefit from both technical quality (RDW) and consumer protection (BOVAG).
Do your mechanics specialize in specific car brands?
Yes, we have brand specialists. While all our mechanics are broadly trained and can work on all brands, some have specialized in specific brands. For example: Mark van der Berg is a VAG specialist (VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat) and Mercedes-Benz certified. Peter Jansen specializes in hybrid technology (Toyota, Lexus, Honda). Jan de Vries has extensive experience with French brands (Peugeot, Renault, Citroën). For complex brand-specific problems, the repair will be assigned to the mechanic with the most expertise in that brand.
What happens if I am not satisfied with the service?
Then we have a structured complaints procedure. If you are dissatisfied, please report it to our service advisor or branch manager. We take your complaint seriously and will respond substantively within 5 business days. In most cases, we can reach a resolution amicably. If that doesn't work, as a customer of a BOVAG garage, you can appeal to the independent Automotive Services Dispute Committee. This committee will assess your complaint objectively and issue a binding decision within three months. The fee is €50 (refundable if you win). This is a unique form of consumer protection available only at BOVAG garages.
Can you also work on hybrid and electric cars?
Yes, we are HV-qualified. Two of our technicians (Peter Jansen and Mark van der Berg) have completed official HV (High Voltage) training and are certified to work safely on high-voltage systems in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. They are authorized to work on systems up to 1000V. For hybrid and electric vehicles, we have specialized insulating tools, high-voltage measuring equipment, and safety protocols. We can perform maintenance, repairs, and MOT inspections on all common hybrid and electric models (Tesla, Nissan Leaf, BMW i3, VW ID series, Toyota Prius, Hyundai/Kia EV, etc.).
How can I be sure that you inspect objectively and do not push repairs?
This is regulated by law and is monitored. RDW-certified inspectors are legally required to perform objective and independent inspections. Inducing unnecessary repairs is prohibited and can lead to withdrawal of the inspector's certification and fines of up to €20,000. The RDW regularly conducts inspections, both announced and unannounced. In addition, the RDW may perform follow-up inspections to verify that the inspection was carried out correctly. At Faay Auto Groep, we maintain a strict separation between inspection and repair: the inspector provides objective advice, and you decide whether to have the repair carried out (at our premises or elsewhere). We are known for our honest inspections – sometimes we even say that a repair is not urgent and can wait a little longer.
Why should I choose a BOVAG garage instead of a cheaper garage?
Quality, reliability and consumer protection. At a BOVAG garage, you might pay a little more than at the cheapest, but you get a lot in return: certified mechanics, high-quality parts, a written warranty, transparent pricing, professional equipment, and the security of the BOVAG code of conduct. You also have access to the independent Dispute Resolution Committee for disputes. Cheaper garages often use inexperienced mechanics, inferior parts, and lack quality control. A poor repair will ultimately cost you more than a proper repair at a certified garage. At Faay Auto Groep, we believe: not the cheapest, but we do offer the best value for money.
